How did you come up with the name, Missing The Point?
Steve C: I actually came up with that. I remember I was just walking down the street one day and it came to me. We had been playing for a while at that point and we needed a name. So we just went with it, here we are now.
Your music is quite interesting. How would you describe it?
Steve C: It's evolved over time, which is a good thing. We started out playing straight up pop/punk. If you listen to all of our old stuff you can tell. We started to go through a transformation, letting some our other influences come out. Now you'll hear some reggae, some rock, among other things, and yeah we can still turn out a pop/punk feeling some every now and again.
If you could go on tour with any musician, who would it be and why?
Steve C: Of course mine would be 311. Chad Sexton (the drummer) is one of my heroes and it would be amazing to have the chance to talk to him about all kinds of stuff. Plus I may as well be dead and in heaven if I was seeing 311 every night, good god.
Is any national tour currently in the works? If so, could you tell us a little about that?
Steve C: Nope, we'll be out in our region playing shows upon shows, some good, some bad. No big tours for a while though. The last one was pretty disasterous, not wanting to sleep in a van that much again for a long time. But someday, someday.
How would you describe your stage show?
Steve C: Not as entertaining as it once was but hopefully people enjoy watching it. I know Ian loves to be everywhere on the stage at once. So I'd just say entertaining and hope all you guys agree with me.
If you were to be compared to any other artist, who would you prefer it be and why?
Steve C: Me personally, Chad Sexton. As far as a drummer goes, the man is skilled beyond belief. He really perfects drumming in a world where a lot of drummers don't care as much about. There are a lot of drummers I love, Adrian Young, Chris from Pomeroy is good too. Tons y tons. As far as the band, you can compare us to Adam Sandler's backing band on What the Hell Happened to Me?
Have you started getting noticed when you're out with friends, yet?
Steve C: Yeah once or twice, doesn't happen too often though. I remember one time we signed an autograph at the library, that was weird. Especially since we had a show outside in the street that day and I don't believe the person even went, haha.
Since you guys don't necessarily fit into a "category" of music, do you think it's harder to gain a fan base?
Steve C: Nope, do what you do and do it well. People want stuff that's new and different, it's all about evolution. Just gotta hope you strike a chord with a group of people cuz "when you got it down, you'll have em comin' for miles."
What is one of the best parts of being in the music industry?
Steve C: There's no way I'd consider us in the music industry. We do everything independently, get back to me if you ever see we're on a record label, I'm sure I'll have some stuff to say.
Do you have any tips for bands like yourself?
Steve C: Play because you love playing. Don't set out seeking fame and fortune, thats just stupid. Work hard while your doing it, go out and play every show like it's the most important show in the world, have fun with all the people around you. If something happens, then that's awesome for you.
Last but not least, do you have a message to your fans?
Steve C: If you're a fan of ours, then thank you. Hope to see you out at the shows.
