For the new fans reading this, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Gregory Scott. I am a 22 year old pop singer-songwriter from Los Angeles. I love music and have been working very hard to get my songs out there, and I hope you'll all take a listen!
How long have you been performing?
One of my earliest memories was performing songs and skits with my family, when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I started dancing in competitions when I was 8, and doing musical theater when I was 10.
Do you have any role models? If so, who are they, and why?
Absolutely! I always wanted to be like my brother when I was little, and even though our career paths were totally different (he's a banker), his intelligence and drive was very inspiring to me. Musically, I grew up on Madonna and Mariah Carey. They're pop music geniuses. I also have a ton of respect for Don Henley and Phil Collins, who showed me what real songwriting is all about. Right now, I've been listening non-stop to Steven Curtis Chapman. He takes singing and songwriting from the heart to a level that I've never heard anyone else achieve- he's an incredible role model, and a truly good person.
Have you ever had any embarrassing stage performances?
Oh yeah... when I was in "Once Upon A Mattress" I forgot the lyrics for part of a song and I just smiled really big and sang "la la la" for awhile. I tried to make it seem like it was suppose to be that way, and I think I got away with it!
What is the best part of being a singer?
Being able to take an idea or an emotion, and make a song out of it, is like nothing else. I love creating music.
How would you describe your music?
My music is definitely pop, but I have so many influences that come into it. My music can lean towards R&B, dance, latin, rock, eletronica, and even contemporary Christian. I hope I can always make diverse music.
What can fans expect to find/experience at your shows?
A lot of fun, and a lot of energy! My band rocks and my dancers have some of the coolest moves you've ever seen.
How did it feel to be nominated for 3 Los Angeles Music Awards this year?
It's so rewarding when your peers acknowledge your work. Usually, pop music is looked down upon as cheezy or trite. All my music is very honest and real, and I hope the nominations are because of that.
What are your goals/hopes to accomplish with your music?
I want to entertain and affect as many people as I can. I'd love to be on TRL and sell a lot of CDs, but nothing really beats an excited fan who loves the music.
If in a few years, you're no longer are singing, what would you do? Would you still want to stay in some area of the music industry?
If I wasn't singing, I would still like to write for other singers. I have a feeling I'll be a publicist at some point in my life, too. On the other hand, I might just take a role as a "bad guy" on a soap opera and have fun with that!
And last, but not least, if you could say anything to the fans reading this now, what would you say?
Thank you for listening and writing me such amazing fan mail! You are the best!!! (For those of you who want to hear my music or write to me, please check out http://www.gregorymusic.com).
