Thanks to: Justincase and Theresa
For the new fans reading this, why don’t you guys tell us a little about yourselves?
Justincase: We’re a three piece pop-rock trio from Charlotte, NC. We are all under the age of 20, and our music is kind of like the Goo Goo Dolls, or Matchbox 20.
What are your names, and how old are you?
Justincase: Justin - 19, Nick - 17 (18 in May), Hannah - 16.
How long has each of you been performing (in general, not as a group)?
Justin: Our dad is a guitar teacher, so I’ve pretty much been playing guitar my whole life.
Hannah: I actually started out playing keyboard for the group, and then about 4 years ago, the other bassist left, and I kind of took over.
Nick: When I was ten, Hannah already had the keys, Justin had the guitar, so I was kind of like what’s left? The drums, oh ok. So that’s basically how I picked it up.
When and how did you guys decide to become a group?
Justincase: There was a talent show at our school, and we all happened to be learning the same songs at the same time, so we kind of just put it all together.
How did you guys decide on the name, Justincase?
Justincase: We were looking for a name and one of our friends suggested it. We thought it was a cool little play on words, and it incorporated our name, so we decided to go with it.
I heard you were discovered by Michelle Branch. That must've been a huge honor! How did that feel?
Justincase: Well… we have been friends with Michelle for a few years now. We met her at a conference for unsigned bands back before either of us were signed and became good friends right away. Then a few months later she got signed. About a year later we were in LA and about to play a showcase. She came, and a few other people from Maverick came and then we got signed. We were very excited.
Does being siblings help or harm being in a group together?
Justincase: It definitely helps AND hurts. It’s helpful, because we all live in the same house, so it’s easy to practice.
Hannah (or Justin?): Also we can really trust each other. I don’t have to worry that the boys are gonna take all my money!
Justin: But it can definitely hurt, as well. A lot of times we are judged just cause we’re siblings; people automatically assume “oh great, another Hanson group”, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not really us. People don’t listen to us with an open mind.
Do you ever get in fights over small stuff like normal siblings do?
Justincase: Oh, noooo, never.
Justin: Yup, we have our fair share of arguments.
What do you do when you can't get away from each other, while on the road?
Justincase: We don’t really mind spending time with each other. We get along pretty well. We always go out to movies or miniature golf and stuff. If we’re all in a good mood, then we can have a good time.
How would you describe your music?
Justincase: Melodic rock.
Do you guys write your own music? If so, how and where do you find your inspiration?
Justin: I write all of the music. There are a few co-writes on the CD; I can only write about things that happen in my own life, things I really know about.
Who do you guys look up to most in the music industry?
Justincase: We all have different people we admire. Some of the musicians are:
Justin: Johnny John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye Blind, Jason Mraz (a new favorite)
Nick: Atheneaum, Kenny Aranoff (famous drummer), John Bonham (drummer from Led Zeppelin) as well as some of the jazz greats (Buddy Guy, Louis Armstrong), also Diana Krall
Hannah: I like a lot of female songwriters: Joni Mitchell, The Dixie Chicks, Michelle Branch,
We have some great music business friends at our record label (Maverick), and our lawyer/manager Ken Abdo is someone we admire and respect greatly.
What are your goals/hopes to accomplish with your music?
Justincase: Longevity. We all plan to make this a career, a long lasting and successful career.
You guys are doing a few shows with Nick Carter. He's a pretty big star, how does that feel? Are you nervous?
Justincase: We’re pretty set. We’ve done a lot of practice and played a lot of shows, so the only thing to be nervous about now is not tripping when we meet him! It might be a little nerve-racking playing in front of that many people, but we’ve done it before, and I’m sure it’ll get easier with each show.
What can fans expect to experience at your shows?
Justincase: Lots of energy and passion going into, and coming out, of the music. We love to have a good time, and try to help everyone else have one, too! We also try to meet our fans whenever possible. They are what it’s all about.
Since you guys are pretty young, so what do you do for fun?
Justincase: Same old stuff, movies, sports, just chillin' with the friends.
If in a few years, you guys no longer are singing as a group, what would you do? Would you still want to stay in some area of the music industry, and if so, what?
Justin: I’ll always be in the business, whether singing, playing, writing, producing, etc.
Nick: I’d love to be a session drummer.
Hannah: Anything that includes playing or working in music.
And last, but not least, if you could say anything to the fans reading this now, what would you say?
Justincase: Come to our show!! We’ll do everything we can to make it the best show you’ve ever been to!! We appreciate you guys the most.
