One True Thing Interview

For starters, why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
Well, since I'm the only one answering the questions, I'll just tell you about me!  I'm Melanie Wills, I'm 25, and I like to eat.  A lot.  And write songs.  How's that?

How long has the band been together?
O.K., I would say One True Thing became official when, Ray (drummer) joined the band two years ago.  Although, Milan and I have been playing together for nine years and with Kris for the past 5.

How would you describe your music?
ROCK.  Not alternative, not straight-up pop.

Do you or the band write the songs the band sings?
Usually they take care of the music and I do the lyrics and vocal melodies.  Once in a while I write the music too, but that can be frightening!  I play the banjo, you know?

Do you have a favorite song on your CD, "Finally..."?
Definitely. "I'll Wait" is the strongest track, in my opinion. It was the last song we wrote for the record, so it is most representative of who we are.

What do you think your biggest accomplishment has been?
Persevering.  I mean, I haven't gotten too far, yet, but I've learned to be persistent and patient.  We all have.  Sometimes we get crazy frustrated with not being signed, not getting shows, but it just pushes us to be better and brighter.

The band is currently not signed. However, you've got your own CD and other merchandise. Do you feel being signed makes a difference in the long run?
Not being signed is pretty lame.  We can't afford to advertise and I literally drive to most of the stores that carry "Finally" and sell them the CD.  Without being signed, it's hard to get a booking agent.  Eventually someone will come along who loves us and wants to sign us for the right reasons and we'll be very very happy!

If you guys could get signed with any label, who would it be and why?
Major or indie?  Indie, I guess I'd say Vagrant, because you can find their CD's in every store or Saddle Creek. Major? Hmmmm....Epic was looking good for a while.  A nice steady rock label, with a good A&R guy named Pete.  But, that's not gonna happen, so let's not start any rumors!

Do you have any tips for aspiring singers and bands, looking to make it in the music industry?
No tips.  I haven't made it myself.  If anyone has tips for me, please email me on onetruething.net! Ha!

Do you have a message for your fans?
Yes.  Please don't throw trash out your car windows.  It's just not nice.

That's it! Thanks for the interview!
