First off, why don't you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Nick Thomas. I play guitar and sing in The Spill Canvas. I'm basically the only member as of now, but I'm working on a full band for this coming summer.
If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be, and why?
In the moment.
Where can fans find out more information about you?
You can go to a few websites: http://www.thespillcanvas.com, http://www.111records.com, http://www.clik.to/thespillcanvas.
How would you describe your music?
This question is always hard to answer for me being the artist, but I guess I'd have to say the genre lies somewhere in the realm of acoustic-based rock.
Do you have a CD out? If not, do you have one in the works?
Yes, I have a debut full-length CD coming out on October 21st on 111 Records. You can pick it up at the 111 online store for now. By summer, it should be in stores everywhere.
You mentioned on your official website that you may be headed out on tour with a labelmate, Rookie Of The Year, is that tour still in the works?
Yes, it's still on, and we're all super pumped to take the Eastern U.S. by storm, and leave a trail of broken cities in our wake. No, but seriously, we're so excited about getting out there and letting people here our music-it's gonna be crazy!
If you could go on tour with any musician, who would it be and why?
I would love to tour with Coheed and Cambria, or Damien Rice. There are so many artists that would be amazing to tour with, but too many to list.
If you were to be compared to any other artist, who would you prefer it to be and why?
I guess I'm honored to be compared to the artists I have been before, such as John Mayer, and Dashboard Confessional. I guess the whole goal is to chisel my own sound and have people accept that with open arms.
Have you started getting noticed, when you're out with friends, yet?
Sort of--only in my hometown, though. I'm just like every other music lover, and I'd rather connect with people on a personal level than be "that rockstar-kid who plays music". I like to just be on the same plane as fans, because they're the lifeblood of my music.
Do you feel it's harder to get noticed in the music industry, if you're not from one of the major music industry cities (e.g., Hollywood or New York)?
No, not at all. Because nowadays those cities are ridiculously over-saturated with a billion "unique" people, and it's so much harder to get noticed there. The fact that I am from South Dakota strikes people as more "unique" than being from a huge industry city. As long as you're willing to travel to those cities to make your name, then there's no problem.
Do you have any tips or "tools of the trade" for aspiring singers, looking to make it in the music industry?
Never, ever, in a million years give up-no matter what anyone says. You'll realize that there are going to be people out to put you down, or to try to stop you from completing your dreams, but you just have to screw 'em, and keep on truckin'.
Last but not least, do you have a message to your fans?
Sorry, I just wasted my "after-school special" message above....haha.
Thanks for your time and good luck with your career!
No, thank you.
